General Information

Measuring

All metal range sizes refer to the total post to post opening (gap) and not the physical width of the gate, fence or railing; we have already allowed for the hinge and latch gaps.  Wooden range gates are actual physical width.

Made To Measure Special Sizes

A made to measure service is available for gates, railing and fence, where stated.  Contact us with your details on our helpline, fax or email for a quotation.  Standard finish for Made-to-Measure goods is primed only unless otherwise agreed.  Primed finish needs to still be painted after fitting. We also offer optinal electro-galvanising for added rust resistance and powder coated black.  Due to physical constraints, special sizes may not always look exactly the same as pictured in the brochure.

Fittings Pack

Unless specified, all metal gates, fence and railings are supplied with a fittings pack to fix to brickwork, metal or timber posts.  Screws, wall plugs and rawl bolts are not included in fitting packs.  Nuts & bolts should be painted after fitting to prevent the onset of rust. Wooden gates require fittings to be purchased seperately.

Posts

Due to the weight of the gates, care must be taken to ensure that the post or brickwork is strong enough to support them.  Height of ball top posts do not include the ball.  Pre-Drilled posts allow for approximately 50mm ground clearance.  We make every effort to ensure the holes in the pre-drilled metal posts are accurate, however as metal gates and fencing are mass produced there may be occasions that the fitting will have small gaps.  This is due to the acceptable variation in the steel tolerances that we have no control over. If you require 100% accuracy, then we recommend you purchase blank posts and drill to suit on site.  Pre-drilled Posts are only for level ground.  Blank posts are for any ground conditions, particularly for sloping ground conditions. Longer posts are required for sloping ground conditions to allow for the step up/down in the fence.

Wooden Gates Treatment

Timber gates are pressure treated with Tanalith-E, a good general purpose wood preserver to help extend the life of the timber against wood rot and insect infestation. The gates should however still be regularly inspected by the end customer and treated as and when required. BIC does not offer any guarantee against wood rot after 12 months on wooden gates, this being due to the multitude of factors beyond our control once the gates are delivered. It remains the end customer’s responsibility to look after the gates and treat as and when required to achieve a long life. BIC does offer a 5 year workmanship warranty on timber gates that covers things like joints breaking, excluding damage from gates swinging shut and breaking from forceful wind. Burbage Iron Craft Ltd only purchases timber used to manufacture all the wooden gates from FSC and  PEFC certified suppliers.

Electro Galvinised & Powder Coated Finish

BIC has introduced the improved electro galvanised and black powder coated finish.  This is designed to provide added corrosion resistance.  The coating is however not a 100% rust prevention guarantee.  It is still the end customers responsibility to periodically inspect and paint / touch up any damage to the powder coating finish.  Rusting is not considered a manufacturing fault and as such does not constitute a warranty claim.
